What is a parent to do?  Kids bring home gobs of art and projects almost daily.  Most end up on the refrigerator or scattered around the house.  At what point do you toss, and how can you keep them forever without cluttering the closets or shelves?  Well, hopefully I can give you some helpful tips.

For the Packrat:  You know who you are.  You cannot stand the thought of throwing anything away.  You keep all your ketchup packets and plastic eating utensils.  So something as precious as original artwork is unquestionably saved—down to the last Crayola covered napkin.

Jackson Pollock is one of the more famous American painters of the twentieth century.  His ‘splatter’ and ‘drip’ styles were highly unusual in the art world and helped pave the way for the abstract expressionist movement.  His technique was interesting because he would often lay an enormous canvas on the floor, rather than easel, and let his imagination run wild with the use of unconventional tools such as sticks, trowels, or dripping fluid.

While Christians celebrated Easter in March this year, Passover takes place late in April.  This week, I think it is fitting to discuss DaVinci’s ‘The Last Supper.’  This painting has been infamous in Christian and secular circles for many years, perhaps hundreds of years.  It features our Lord Jesus Christ partaking in his last Passover meal with his disciples.  In recent years, controversy arose with it in the blockbuster movie, ‘The DaVinci Code,’ but the true story is just as noteworthy.

Make Your Own Canvas PDF Print E-mail

Many of us would like to try our hands at painting, even if we aren't masters at it.  While it is pretty affordable to buy canvases at a local department store, these tend to be very thin and require framing to make them 'wall art.'  But it is very simple to make a thicker canvas of your own that requires no frame.  And it is especially fun for kids to create a painting of their own that hangs nicely.
