Jackson Pollock is one of the more famous American painters of the twentieth century. His ‘splatter’ and ‘drip’ styles were highly unusual in the art world and helped pave the way for the abstract expressionist movement. His technique was interesting because he would often lay an enormous canvas on the floor, rather than easel, and let his imagination run wild with the use of unconventional tools such as sticks, trowels, or dripping fluid.
Because of this unique approach to art, many home craft ideas have been spawned for their simplicity. In fact, many school projects have also reflected this type of creativity. Now, it seems, there is a new evolution of this technique found on internet craft sites: the spray bottle technique.
The idea is to continue with the theme of random use of liquid paint, but instead of dripping or tossing it, you put it in spray bottles and spritz it on the canvas, walls, or chosen surface.
This inexpensive art project requires only craft paint, travel sized spray bottles, and a surface. It makes a great homeschool project that even the little ones can enjoy. Why not make a homemade pillow case, or let your kids help decorate their boring bedroom walls? This technique also makes interesting shades when used with stencils. So what have you got to lose?
