In a technology driven world, kids grow up in front of the television and are internet savvy by kindergarten. I know my five year old is fully capable of surfing the web via the sites she sees on commercials, such as nickelodeon.com and disneychannel.com. With this e-generation comes quite a downfall: kids would rather be entertained than entertain. In an attempt to nurture the imaginations of little ones, we often stifle them. |

Last fall season opened for anticipating television audiences. Fans across the globe gathered around the ‘tube,’ and programmed their DVRs, to watch the shows they waited all summer long to see. One such show was ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ This show takes inexperienced ‘stars’ and thrusts them into the world of competitive ballroom dancing. While many enjoy the entertainment value of dance, it is fascinating to see the public’s interest in an art such as ballroom dancing. Typically, few average folk know the art, let alone enjoy it; so it’s curious that this show has received such raving reviews. In fact, in its debut week, over eighteen million viewers plugged in to watch the show, tying other popular shows for the night such as Fox’s ‘House.’ One has to wonder what is so fascinating about ballroom dancing. |
